This is a classic case of whether to stay with the vehicle, or leave it. We have heard it said that the former decision is the correct decision - stay with the vehicle and try to signal for help - as apposed to leaving the vehicle to self rescue. A very good reminder to carry provisions in the car with you to make it through at least a multi-day, stranded, worse case scenario event.
