Backcountry Skier Rescued By Whatcom SAR Team
On the day the new year began, the Whatcom County Search and Rescue team and other volunteers came to the rescue of a backcountry skier who got stuck in a drainage which took 14 hours for the rescue to be fully completed.
While seeking a hoist-equipped helicopter from the U.S. Coast Guard, CBP air-dropped an overnight kit with food, shelter and a radio to the skier, which was fortuitous as it became too dark and difficult to see to attempt a nighttime air rescue. Read more here
